America’s Cup Live Broadcasts This Weekend
If you have the time and interest you can tune in to the live broadcasts of the America's Cup series races from Venice this weekend. Quite a treat to hear the familiar "Guys, we got a cluster f**k here" spoken by a highly paid athlete in an Australian accent.

It's an amazing sight with the Cup catamarans racing in the narrow confines of the bay in front of lovely and historic Venice.

You can find the races at http://www.youtube.com/AmericasCup.

Night Cap Series, Race 2 Blown Away

Sunday afternoon’s race was blown off the Bay with the first serious wind storm of the fall. At 11:15 Myron put out the racing canceled flag on the picnic table by the yard office in Boat Haven after first checking the ferry wind which was showing 28 to 30.

Night Cap Series, Race 1

The first race of the Night Cap Series attracted 7 boats, but alas, no finishers

The calm day seemed to be freshening from the NNE at starting time, esp. in Admiralty Inlet, so the (landlocked) RC set a hopeful course–Start–#2 buoy–tower–#2 buoy–finish.  Good start and hopeful progress.  Some good wind lines for those who [...]

Surviving to tell the story of Rambler 100

Rambler 100 turtled off Fastnet Rock when the keel failed. Photo from Phaedo

From Scuttlebutt

It was Monday (Aug. 15), and the Juan K designed Rambler 100 had but 265 miles remaining in the 608 mile Fastnet Race. They had just rounded the infamous Fastnet Rock, and needed to complete a short 7 mile beat before they could turn left and enjoy the hayride home. But then, at 5:45pm UK time, the unthinkable happened: the keel bulb broke off.

Here Rambler 100 navigator Peter Isler shares his story from onboard:

In 23 knots of wind, we were headed upwind after rounding Fastnet, and heard the big bang. The boat immediately flipped to 90 degrees, and within 30 seconds it turned turtle. Five people got separated from the boat. They luckily all had life jackets and were able to stay together. The remaining 16 crew were able to stay with the boat, three of which did the dry walk onto the overturned hull. Everyone had their own harrowing story to get up on the hull.
