Kuma San charging to 2022 Bush Point win Four boats showed up to start the 2022 edition of PTSA's Bush Point race. The course runs from City front to the mid-channel marker between Bush Point (on Whidbey Island) and the southern end of Marrowstone Island. It is the shortest of the four "distance races," a mere 14.9 miles. A sprint that would take an AC72 20 minutes to complete, barely affected by 4 knots of current. PTSA MYSTERY BAY CAMPOUT: JULY 23-24
Join us, Saturday July 23, for a Mystery Bay overnight excursion. There will be an informal start off City Dock at 10:00 a.m, heading to I (buoy off Indian Point near Boat Haven entrance), to G (entrance to Kilisut harbor), and a procession through the channel to Mystery Bay. It was another race with a lot of wind. Gusts close to 30kts. Some crews ran their spinnakers, and had a wild ride, others chose the more sedate option and poled their jibs out wing-on-wing for the downwind run. Seven Tbirds came out for two races of two laps each. The first race saw Dorado take a commanding lead only to be overtaken right at the line by Corvo, with Kuma San taking third about 30 second back. In the second race Corvo lead most of the way followed by Kuma San. But the wind shut down on the last downwind and Possum , seeing a little more wind on the left side of the course, just squeezed out a win over Kuma for second place, with Corvo taking first. There were two races to finish off the series. In the first race the wind shifted 45 degrees as the gun went off and the boats at the pin end had a reach directly to the windward mark. Due to the big shift the race committee finished the race after the first lap. The wind was more steady for the second race. It was a nice night, but pretty windy (15 to 25kts). The course was: City Dock - Indian Point - Tower - Indian Point - Pt. Hudson buoy - City Dock. No spinnakers were flown. Two of the four boats decided not to do the last leg out the the red buoy. The two finishers were Falcon (who lead the whole way) and Kuma San.
