It was a breezy evening for the last race of the Friday Whitecap series. The wind, which was supposed to die at 5pm, did not read the weather forecast and continued to blow at 15 to 20 knots from the WSW throughout the race. In the second race the second, third, and fourth place boats finished within five seconds of each other. PHRF Whitecap Race #6, 05/20/22 Results and Series Standings
It was a beautiful day for a race. Sunny with good wind. The course went from city dock, to the Point Hudson red buoy, to the tower, to Indian Point, and back to city dock. The boats were chasing Pacifica on the spinnaker run to the tower when she slowed down and they all bunched up. The beat to "I" saw Pacifica round first closely followed by Corvo, then Kuma San. Thunderbird Wednesday W/L races. Sunshine Series 05/18/22
It was windy. Twenty, gusting to thirty. "Should we race?", was the question. After a bunch of discussion and feet shuffling, the answer was yes. Apparently the previous week's cancellation due to excessive wind had caused a pent up demand to get out on the water. The first race was a knuckle-biting affair in which none of the boats chose to fly their kites. It was two laps around a short course from out in the bay to the Y mark and back to the committee boat. Race to the Straits
The PTSA came to the rescue when the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club was having trouble finding a boat and volunteers to staff the race committee for the finish on Saturday and the start on Sunday of their very popular Race to the Straits. The race is a two day event starting and ending near Shilshole with a stopover in PT. PHRF Whitecap race #5, 05/06/22 results and Series Standings
The original plan was to start at City Dock and go to the Point Hudson buoy then do two laps to the northern most morning buoy at Ft Warden and back to the PH buoy. The wind didn't cooperate, but we did get one lap in. Falcon got a good start and lead to near the Marine Science Center where Corvo made a good decision to go way inshore and pulled ahead at the turning mark. Kuma San tried to catch up to no avail. Another fun night of racing. The wind started out from the west and fairly quickly shifted to WNW, blowing from four to ten knots. The first race (two laps) saw several lead changes as boats searched for wind and some got caught in a hole on the final downwind leg. Corvo came out on top, followed by Dorado, and then Falcon. In the second race (one lap) Kuma San got a great start near the pin and lead the whole way to finish first. Corvo passed Dorado on the downwind leg to take second, with Dorado finishing in third.
