Whitecap PHRF Race No. 2 Results – April 16, 2021

Before the race the water surface showed large wind shadows all over the bay The wind on City Dock was of very variable direction but mainly Northwesterly. The wind speed was also very variable, 4 -5  kts with lulls below 3 kts and the occasional gust to 6.

Course SITIF – 5.1 nm. was set with the intent of TI providing a good windward leg. In recognition of the possibly deteriorating wind the fleet was instructed via VHF to check City Dock for a possible Shorten Course signal, in which case they were to return directly to F, cutting over a mile off the distance.

After the start the wind shadows became smaller in the inner part of the bay. By the time the fleet approached T the wind had softened there too. The course was shortened but the wind was mostly gone from the rest of the bay, only occasionally lifting the flags on the dock. The fleet persevered and all finished well within the time limit.
