PTSA Nightcap Series Day 2 – September 26, 2020
Committee was greeted by ~8 kt SE breeze. A temporary W mark was set and Committee ran on a NW bearing to set the S/F line only to discover the wind was backing. When the line was finally set for a NE wind, the wind disappeared. After a while the usual Westerly began to fill in making Y a good Windward mark except that it was too close to the S/F line. Committee relocated to set I as the Windward mark. Race 1. Course SIGaIF. Wind at start 5.5-6.5 kts. from 310 degM. Bearing to I, 310 deg. Pin [...]
Bush Point Race Replaced by Nightcap Race
The distance race to Bush Point scheduled for Saturday (9/26/2020) is being replaced by a regular in-the-bay Nightcap series race - 1pm committee boat start. See post below for a little more context.
Change of Plan for Saturday’s Race
Due to confusion related to the pandemic we do not have a permit from the Coast Guard to run the Bush Point distance race this Saturday. It would be possible to run a race (without a permit) as long as boats stay away from the shipping lane. This would mean short tacking down Marrowstone Island to Kinney Pt. and back, and that may still happen. But there will also be a regular Nightcap series race(s) starting at 1pm. TBirds will have the regular windward/leeward course. Non-TBirds will have there own longer course with more varied legs. Stay tuned. We [...]
PTSA Nightcap Series Day 1 – September 19, 2020
This week the wind forecasts proved correct, there was very little and it was from the northeast. Committee set mark D in anticipation of the PHRF course then headed out into the bay to check the wind. The windward mark for the W/L races was set at the edge of a seemingly persistent wind shadow, where the wind measured ~2 kts G 2.5. Committee then moved downwind and waited while observing the average wind direction before setting a square line. The usual SWGaWF course was set rather short. The course set for the PHRF fleet was SBDYF⧫2 (8.1 nm). [...]
Format for the Nightcap Series – Starting this Saturday, Sept 19 th.
Races will be run from the Committee Boat. There will be two Classes, Thunderbird and PHRF. Thunderbirds will continue their two race, Windward/Leeward courses. PHRF will have a single "Random Leg" Course. A T-bird may choose to race PHRF - notify the RC. If only one PHRF boat checks in they will race with the T-birds. The Course for PHRF will be displayed on the top reader board, the T-bird course will hang below. To avoid interference between the two fleets, wind cooperating, PHRF will start first with the A Class flag and sail to a Windward mark further [...]
