By |May 17th, 2015|Categories: PHRF, Race Reminder|Tags: |

Let's get a turnout like this! Only two weeks to the Tour-de-Bay Race. On Saturday May 30 th. we will start at City Dock at 11:45 am. and sail a 13 -15 nm. course back to the dock, depending on the wind.  The course rounds almost all of the permanent and temporary marks listed on "Marks and their Labels" at least once, hence the trip around the bay that some have been lobbying for.  You should check you have the latest edition of Marks and their Labels and the Mark Location diagram aboard - you can download them [...]

By Kurt Hoehne In today’s world, there are few adventures with Big Questions. It seems every adventure has been done at least once before. Somebody’s going to find a new route to the summit, win the game on a superlative performance or lucky bounce, or find that extra bit of speed around the race. Those are relatively Little Questions. Maybe that’s the appeal of the [...]

Port to Port Race Results

By |May 13th, 2015|Categories: Racing out of the Bay|Tags: |

Five boats hit the starting line on Saturday during a window in the High School Sailing Team’s Regional Regatta which had about 50 boats on a course in front of the NW Maritime Center.  The 2 pm start was chosen to gain advantage of a strong flood tide in Admiralty Inlet.  The course went outside Marrowstone Island and finished at the daymark near the entrance to the Port Ludlow marina.  Winds were generally light, northerly, with the occasional hole, particularly approaching Port Ludlow.  The first boat covered the 15.4 nm., mostly leeward, course in a little over 3 hrs. the [...]

Spring White-cap Series – 2015, Race 6 & Final Standings

By |May 8th, 2015|Categories: Racing on the Bay|Tags: |

The final race of this year’s Spring Whitecap Series promised to be a good one as the day was warm and sunny and the Northwest wind had been slowly building all day until, by mid afternoon, the weather station at the mill was reporting gusts of 20 mph.  Unfortunately it then started to die away a little.  By race time, at the dock, it was varying around 6 kts. gusting to 10.  The direction, around 250º M, did not align well with our fixed marks for a windward/leeward course so we compromised and set SATYDF (4.38 nm.).  AT should have [...]

Spring White-cap Series – Race Five

By |May 2nd, 2015|Categories: Racing on the Bay|Tags: |

After six weeks of frustration we finally had almost perfect conditions.  The wind had been slowly building all day and by race time it was NW, high teens gusting into the twenties.  For some reason the sea state appeared not to have risen as much as would have been expected. As there had been some muted grumbling of late about nothing but short windward/leeward courses it was decided to take advantage of the conditions and let everyone stretch their legs on a longer, mainly reaching course.  The flood in the inlet was less than half a knot (maybe a little [...]

Current Status of Port’s Stormwater Response

By |May 1st, 2015|Categories: In the Yard, Port of Port Townsend|Tags: |

Post from the Port of Port Townsend website. Photo from Port of PT website As [the Port of PT has] communicated previously, the Port of Port Townsend is currently in the midst of a Level 3 environmental response to the WA State Department of Ecology. This is the highest level of response, and reflects the serious nature of the level of contaminants entering our stormwater system. Our continued ability to run a boatyard in Port Townsend is dependent on our ability to reduce contaminant levels. There are two primary issues we are addressing: Cleaning up contamination that has [...]
