Spring White Cap – Race 1
This was the race that nearly didn’t happen. The PRO loaded all the gear on the committee boat, inflated the marks, set up the flags and reader board well ahead of time. The Captain was called when he hadn’t shown up by 6 pm and said PRO (probably senile and certainly embarrassed) was reminded that he had been informed that the boat was unavailable this week. First Race of the Season “Blown Away”
The first race of the Spring Whitecap Series was cancelled due to Gale Warnings in Admiralty inlet. For once the Weather Service was correct. A quick check of local reporting stations at 4 pm. showed the ferry dock reporting average southerly winds in the high 20's with gusts in the high 30's and wind-shifts around 30 deg. The Mill also reported wind southerly in the high 20's to high 30's but with an occasional gust well over 40. Wind-shifts at the mill were as much as 60 deg. and very rapid. The PTSA Race Committee at the 2015 Shipwrights' Regatta. The first race of the PTSA Spring Whitecap Series celebrates the equinox next Friday, March 20th., starting at 6:30 pm. In preparation, there will be a skipper's meeting (open to anyone who wants to sail with us, skipper or crew) on Thursday, March 19th., 6:00 pm. at the Northwest Maritime Center.
