The wind had been blowing steadily from SSE all day at ~5 – 8 mph. and was forecast to reverse direction in the middle of the racing. For once luck was upon our side, the pressure dropped earlier than forecast and the wind reversed direction just as Sockeye left her slip, making for a fine opening day. A long course was set up as the wind was building above 10 – 12 kts. Setting the S/F line was tricky due to the size, windage and the heavy anchoring gear of Sockeye and the cross current at the time. When she settled to her anchor we ended up with the wind from 295°M (to 5° accuracy). the bearing to mark W was also 295°.  We also ended up with the S/F line twice as long as it need be for 5 boats. The bearing of the pin from the CB was about 215°, so the pin was slightly favored.

The usual course, SWGaWF was set and the boats started on time into 11 – 12 kt wind with occasional gusts to 16 kts, backing to 280°.

For the start of the second race the wind had backed to 270°, similar strength. During this race the wind softened a lot but maintained the same direction.
