This week the wind forecasts proved correct, there was very little and it was from the northeast. Committee set mark D in anticipation of the PHRF course then headed out into the bay to check the wind. The windward mark for the W/L races was set at the edge of a seemingly persistent wind shadow, where the wind measured ~2 kts G 2.5. Committee then moved downwind and waited while observing the average wind direction before setting a square line. The usual SWGaWF course was set rather short.
The course set for the PHRF fleet was SBDYF⧫2 (8.1 nm). with the hope that traveling the full length of the bay they might find some wind. Set twice around in case the wind should suddenly come on strongly. Neither came to pass and after almost completing the shortened course, approaching Y, the boats did not have enough wind to stem the current and retired.
For the Thunderbirds, two races were started when the wind rose over 3 kts. but in both the wind only held until the leaders rounded the windward mark. Both times the course was shortened at the gate. Waiting for another opportunity for a start proved futile.
