Did you know that the PTSA owns a club Thunderbird named Mustang Sally? Did you know that PTSA members can have access to Mustang Sally? Did you know you can volunteer to help refit Mustang Sally in the push to prep her for the racing season? (It might get you on the shortlist for access!) Mustang Sally even has a committee, so you know it’s serious.

What, rebuilding chainplates and cleaning winches are out of your wheelhouse? No worries, Mustang Sally is a learning opportunity. But if your specialty is baking cupcakes or distilling rum, don’t underestimate the value of a well-timed delivery. Just sayin’. On the other hand, cold hard cash can be helpful too. Mustang Sally needs things that volunteerism just can’t buy. But enough of that…

A hearty PTSA crew banded together on a chilly but dry Sunday morning to remove Mustang Sally’s mast for a thorough inspection and any necessary work. There’s a video to prove it! Fearlessly led by Jeff Brantley (at least not so it showed), the DIY method of removing the mast using a gin pole was employed, tackling the laws of physics head-on. A grand time was had by all. So much so that they went ahead and pulled Corvo’s mast too. (With the owner’s encouragement, of course.)

If, after watching the video, you feel as if you missed out, it’s not too late to get involved. Email info@ptsail.org with “Mustang Sally” in the subject line. Mention how you’d like to help, and someone will get back to you.
And there’s always this:

Thanks to Josh Wheeler for the write up and to everybody who helped.
