This race is modelled after the infamous THREE BRIDGE FIASCO held annually on San Francisco Bay. This pursuit style race will give each participant the opportunity to tour Port Townsend Bay and challenge them to find the fastest way to complete the course based on their analysis of the wind, currents, and their own boat’s capabilities. There will be three race marks set in the vicinity of each of the following local historical forts: Fort Townsend, Fort Flagler, and Fort Worden. The start/ finish line will be in the vicinity of the PTSA Race Mark “C”. The NOTICE OF RACE and SAILING INSTRUCTIONS will provide exact locations of the marks, the start/ finish line, starting procedures, and other important details. The planned overall distance will be approximately 12 NM. In short, each participating yacht shall cross the start line at their designated start time (in either direction), round each of the three “FORT” buoys (in any order and any direction), and return to cross the start/finish line (in either direction) to complete the course. As this will be a pursuit style race (reverse handicap) each participant will be assigned an individual start time based on their handicap. Pre-registration is required. Rest assured that there will be additional instructions and details in the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions that will detail the event and provide additional guidance. The NORs will be posted by April 23, 2025.
