On the 6th-7th of May, members of the Port Townsend High School Sailing Team traveled to the Cascade Locks, Oregon, to sail on the Columbia River for their gold district championship event. They sent two teams, one representing Port Townsend High School with sailors Ava Butterfield, Lhotse Rowell, Antonio Rioseco, Ocean Smith, and Hazel Windstorm, and the other representing West Sound Academy with sailors LC Bowen, Nadia Fisch, Noah Holly, and Zia Magill. The teams were accompanied by their coach, Darby Flanagan. The Columbia River Gorge is famous for being windy, and both teams gave great efforts in the challenging conditions. The Port Townsend High School team placed 8th, and the West Sound Academy team placed 18th.
