Preparations are under way for another fun-filled weekend of sailing and camaraderie. The 28th annual WBF Classic Mariners Regatta is scheduled for June 3-5. The Port Townsend Sailing Association will be organizing the activities and the Northwest Maritime Center will host the event as usual. Other sponsors that have stepped up to help in the effort include: Spear Woodworks, Port Townsend Rigging ,Freyja Boatworks, Port Townsend Brewing, Sunrise Coffee, and Guy Hupy Design. This year’s itinerary will be similar to 2010, with a few additions. The 6-meters and R-Boats are participating this year, in addition to the usual Schooners, Thunderbirds, and wide assortment of other wood craft. We hope to have even more rowers and kayakers for the Sunday morning race as well. The registration fee is only $40.00 per sailing vessel and $10 per kayak or rowing shell. (If you are already registered to sail, you need not pay extra to race your dinghy or shell too.) Dinner is $15.00 per person. You can’t beat those prices for a weekend of fun on the water. If you would like moorage at Point Hudson, please call both the Port (360-385-2828) and let Kathy Grace know as well (360-301-4938). We have reserved a number of spaces together for the event but the reservation is only good until May 18th. If you have not reserved a spot by then you may not be able to find one at Point Hudson. It is a busy time of year. When you call Point Hudson, tell them you are with the Classic Mariners Regatta. They will not charge you the usual reservation fee. Moorage for the weekend will be due upon your arrival (approx. $1.00 per foot.) If you want to sail and don’t have a boat, come to the skippers meeting to connect with skippers in need of crew, or call Kathy and we may be able to find a boat for you ahead of time. Sign up now.
