Ted Pike Memorial Race
Notice of Race
August 5, 2023
Ted was one of the founding members of Port Townsend Sailing Association. He was a well known sailor in the region, generous to all sailors and promoter of youth. This race is dedicated to his memory.
The race starts on the beach just south of the Marine Science Center. All boats are to be anchored by 12:00 within 200 yards of the beach and south of the stairs leading down to the beach. Skippers, or designated crew if skipper is unable, to go ashore for the start. The entry fee is a pint of good quality rum, which is poured into the rum keg. There will be no entry fee required if Skipper is under 21 years old. There will be two classes: Racing (PHRF 200 0or less) and Cruising.
At the start the skippers will line up and at the horn will race down the beach and make their way out to their anchored boats. The crew can not raise sail until the skipper makes contact with the boat. The boats then sail the designated course and finish at Salmon Park next to the North West Maritime Center. The boats must send a crew ashore, anchoring is optional, with a cup. The boat is finished once the crew takes a shot of water or rum from the keg.
There will be cook out at the PTSA club house at 17:00. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be provided. Please bring sides or other food that you wish. Results and awards will be presented after they have been calculated.
