There are three Saturday series
The Frostbite Series runs on Saturdays in January – March. This is very casual racing and usually boats only go out when the weather is good. There is no race committee. Crews meet up at the clubhouse or on the dock and decide what to do.
The Saturday PHRF Bay Series (new in 2026) runs once-a-month all spring and summer. The focus is on PHRF racing, with a windward start and a random leg course using mostly fixed marks around the bay. Races are run from the committee boat. The committee boat will have a course board on the stern specifying the course to be sailed. If enough Thunderbirds show up and would like their own start the race committee will accommodate.
2026 race dates: April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept 19
The Saturday Nightcap Series is pretty much like the PHRF Bay Series but it runs from the week after the Wooden Boat Festival till the third week in October. There will be separate starts and courses for PHRF boats and Thunderbirds.
2026 race dates: September 19, 26, October 03, 10, 17, 24
Look for the committee boat out on the bay wherever it looks like the wind is best. It is a 30′ powerboat, with a flybridge, named “Committee”, flying a big orange flag.
All the details about the course board, mark designations, starting sequences and flags, rules, etc. are in the General Sailing Instructions. Note, we do not do protests in PTSA races, so if you think you have fouled someone do your turns.
