Sounds like the Sunday Funday on May 25th was a blast. Here’s a report from Dave James who runs the event:

For the second Sunday Funday of 2025 the skippers meeting we had 7 boats looking for crew and about 12 crew looking for boats. Some of the crew from last month were able to shuffle around, allowing them to experience sailing on different boats. More crew members could have easily been accommodated but every boat had at least a minimum crew. It was a beautiful, sunny day but the winds were light, so we weren’t in a hurry to get out on the water. About 1:15 the wind had filled in at around 6-8 knots from the NW, so we got everyone off through the modified rabbit start. The attached photos were taken at the start by Doris Loeser aboard the rabbit, Salsa.

It was a wonderful tight reach along the city front from “C” to “Y” and the fleet started to open up a bit. Salsa came back around to check on a couple of boats that appeared to be having some challenges and then re-joined the fleet as everyone was trying to optimize their VMG down to “G” as the wind held steady from the NW around 6-8 knots. From “G”, we had a nice beat up to “I”, our ending point. About halfway up the leg, the wind shut down. Salsa was ready to fire up the motor when the crew noticed wind filling in from the east. Those boats that stayed on port tack longer were the first to get this northeasterly wind of about 8 knots. Salsa headed up way above proper course to get some of that new wind.

The lead boats were very close at the end of the course with the Rhodes 27 edging out the Islander 32 by five feet for second to cross. Oh wait, this wasn’t a race.

A couple of boats didn’t head in right away and enjoyed the wonderful sailing conditions. The great day of sailing was followed with an informal gathering at the clubhouse where everyone swapped tales. Can’t wait for next month.
