Change in Scoring for Did Not Compete (DNC)

Here-to-fore we have been scoring Series Races according to RRS A5.3.  “Penalties” (DNS, NSC, RET, DNF, DSQ etc.) are scored “Number of Starters +1”, while DNC is scored “Number of Registrants +1″.  A problem arises due to our informality, any boat showing up at the start of any race of a Series is automatically “registered” for the whole series, including earlier races. As a series progresses the penalty for DNC can become much greater than the number of boats competing regularly and may be a disincentive for more casual racers to participate.

In future, while the scores for “Penalties” will remain unchanged, the score for DNC will be “Number of Starters +2” for that particular race. Each race of a Series may have a different actual DNC score.
