There was initial disappointment when the RC arrived at the dock at 10:15 to find no wind in the starting area. However, the wind filled in while a record number of enthusiastic boats checked in. At the start the wind was blowing 12kts from the SE with 14kt gusts and the fleet rapidly disappeared around Pt Hudson.
Reports from the fleet indicated that the wind continued to increase until 30 kt gusts were encountered in the vicinity of the island. Boats reached the island in about an hour (downwind and ebb tide, spinnakers carried all the way to the west end of the island), before the current had reversed, so the trip back took about three hours. There were some complaints about the sea building and some boats being wet, but it was claimed to be tremendous fun anyway.
