Promoting Sailing and Racing on Port Townsend Bay
THE PTSA NEWS - December 17, 2021

It's been a good year for racing in Port Townsend. PTSA ran seventy eight races. Thirty three boats sailed in at least one (not counting the Shipwrights Regatta). The Tbird Falcon (Roland Nikles) sailed in the the most races with sixty-six. Varya (Jen and Peter Bates) was on top for the non-Tbirds at fourteen. It was great to see more non-Tbirds out this year and we hope that trend continues in 2022.

After taking November off the board is back to planning for next year.

The membership drive for 2022 is underway! From now until January 15th Steve Scharf and Roland Nikles will match any new or renewing membership. Help refill the PTSA coffers by signing up now on the web site. Click on the Join/Renew menu item at the top of the page and choose which type of membership you would like: skipper, crew, or sponsor.

Is all this rain making you want to get out on the water? We are trusting it will get better for the start of the casual Frostbite series on January 1st! Yes, you have to be just a little bit crazy, but it's been a lot of fun the past couple of years to get out on nice Saturdays in the winter. The plan is to meet on A dock at noon to make a plan of action then be out on the bay by 1pm to implement the plan. This series will be a good warmup for the Shipwrights Regatta which is just a little over two months away. All boats are welcome!

Once again we have postponed our annual end-of-year celebration. Every time we schedule a party it seems like another variant pops up. Then we have to answer two questions. Will it be safe to hold a big indoor gathering? If we do hold it will people come? There is enough doubt about answers to both that we postponed again. The new date, which will combine the end of year party from 2021 and the beginning of year for 2022 is March 24th, 2022 at the Cotton building.

There is one race to report on. Sir Isaac, double handed by Ann and John Bailey won their class and got ninth overall in the Around the County race! That is a two day event which circumnavigates the San Juan Islands and was held on November 13th and 14th. Congrats to John and Ann.

All the best for a happy holiday season. We hope to see you out on the water in the new year.
