Edwin 'Ted' Bertram Pike lll

Our beloved husband, father, brother, neighbor, sailor and friend left for other seas Aug. 24, 2015. Born in Berkeley, California on Jan. 25, 1950 to Edwin Bertram Pike, Jr. and Jane Parrish Pike, “Ted” was raised in Marin County and Lake Tahoe, California.
Ted was a lifelong adventurer. Early in life he traveled throughout the U.S., Europe and Eastern Asia. Stopping over for several years in Australia he enhanced his sailing, surfboarding and boatbuilding skills and came back to the U.S. with many amazing stories to tell. For years he also lived in the central coast of California and then with his wife and baby son adventured in Mexico.
Coming to Jefferson County in 1989, Ted was able to feed his passion for wooden boats and was immediately immersed. He was actively involved with the Wooden Boat Foundation, Port Townsend Sailing Association, Marine Trades, Northwest Maritime Center, Jefferson County 4-H, Orcas Island Sailing, and WoodenBoat magazine. As an employee of Edensaw Woods for 20 years with many clients in the marine trades, Ted always loved traveling around the country to meet them and attend boat shows, returning to Edensaw and his community with many tales to tell.
Ted is survived by his wife Kate, sons Adrian, Roger and Chris, daughter Lanika, sisters Meredith and Judy, five grandchildren, niece and nephew, grand-niece and grand-nephew, and many cousins – all of whom he loved dearly and who will remember him so lovingly. He is also survived by his extended family, employer/friend, co-workers/friends, neighbors/friends, and boating community/friends all of whom have been so kind and generous to family in their time of need.
Ted was universally known for his terrific bear hugs, humor, great stories, engaging grins and unwavering kindness.
A celebration of Ted is to be held at the Northwest Maritime Center Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 2p.m. to 5p.m. The scattering of ashes is expected earlier that day, weather permitting, and any accompanying boats are so very welcome.
