Too bad this great boat has had to undergo the patch jobs rather than a complete and worthy restoration. Even more regretful is that Meteors current owner would ruin this unique part of Northwest Maritime History by complemplating conversion to electric power. What a waste.

Kim, what a great team and what an exciting boat. We really look forward to following the build and can't wait to see her out sailing on the Bay.

Does anyone have experience with alternatives such as ultra sonic anti-fouling?
http://www.envirosonic.eu/boatsonic%20new.html
http://www.ultrasonic-antifouling.com/ultrasonic_antifouling_for_sail_boats.html
These systems seem to sell for about $1200 to $1500 and last 10 years. This would make them quite a bit cheaper than hauling and painting. Elimination of fairly thick bottom paint is also better for racers.
Another alternative is 10 year copper coating from the UK. (http://www.coppercoatusa.com/). While this product uses copper, it is permanently adhered to the hull and does not slough off leaving the residue on the marina bottom. It also does not need to be sanded off and disposed of each year or two.
It would be interesting to see some tests of these in our waters. Perhaps a study could be done prior to banning effective products.

It's a great idea, but I worry about the potential chafe at the stantions. Like most, we like to leave some slack in the lifelines to facilitate getting into hiking position. Every time a crew member or a piece of running rigging loads up a lifeline there is significant chafe at every stantion on that side. over time the Dyneema will fray. Chafe gear is a possible solution - like a small length of vinyl shroud cover - but keeping this in place is challenging.I love the idea of lightening up, but in the end we went with stainless for its longevity. To compensate we only bring dehydrated beer when we race!

The 505 PCC has come and gone, and has left smiles on the faces of many 505sailors, a host of dedicated volunteers, and even untold accidental spectators as they marveled at the speed and grace of these world class dinghies. I just want to acknowledge the hard work of not just Dan and me but also Sugar Flanagan, Sean Rankins and a veritable army of willing folks who helped us host this event. Special thanks to Chris and Kathy Grace for providing a perfect Race Committee platform in their trawler, Petrel! Also, thanks to Jeff Gibbons, whom I forgot to acknowledge at the awards gathering. He provided expert IT support for tabulating the race results. More to come soon about the event.
