Unlike last week’s storm warnings and race cancellation, this week we had almost perfect racing conditions. At race time the wind at the dock was 8 – 11 kts. steadily from 130°M, which would have made CT a good windward/leeward course. The sea was lumpy, left over from stronger winds earlier in the day. The course set was SATF2, almost 6 miles, with the possibility of shortening if the wind softened. Mark A was used to ease crowding at the pin. The wind held steady for the first lap (although reportedly, land effects made it softer and more shifty in the vicinity of the tower). On the first lap the last boat made it round the tower in 30 minutes and was starting the second lap in another 20 so it was not necessary to shorten course. During the second lap the wind at the dock dropped to 6 – 8 kts and backed about 30°. The shift compensated for the decrease in pressure as the windward leg became almost a fetch and the leeward a reach. Times were comparable for both laps.
Next week’s race will be the last of the series and of the season. There were requests for another make-up on Nov. 5 th. but this conflicts with the Round The County weekend. A race on Nov. 12 th. would not allow time for preparation of the awards for the Ceremony and Festivities on Nov. 17 (Remember the date!).
The availability of the Committee Boat next week is uncertain. If you don’t see it out then head for the City Dock.
